About Strange Mirror

" When I was ten I would play with my little sister.
My grand-mother had always told us to not play on the road.
One day, I brought my little sister on the road. She went on the road and I was running after her but a car arrived and I couldn't save her. I was too late.
I saw my little sister get crashed by a car in front of my eyes without me doing anything to help. This moment has been haunting me for 45 years.

I produced Strange Mirror to turn the page of this horrible memory that I've been thinking of every day.
In Strange Mirror a group of friend's go to the cinema.
An old man warn's them of their destiny. "

The director

Mark Houdini (born July 27, 1968) is a Dutch film director.

He comes from a middle-class background, his father is a computer scientist and his mother works in a supermarket. He stopped his schooling at the age of 16 after the divorce of his parents, the family situation is instandable. His mother was too poor to pay for higher education, so he looked for work at a young age and left home.

Mark Houdini quickly finds a small job in a cinema, he does the cleaning, the cash register, then learns to project. He worked until he was 22 years old in the main cinema of Rotterdam, it is there that he discovered the passion of the dark room.

He then met the great Dutch director Paul Verhoeven who opened the doors of cinema to him by financing his first project, Under the ice (1991), which was a success in Holland.

After that, he directed : The mockingbird (1992), The cold night (1995), Shrerk (1998),
The blue face (2001), Mystery of Henry orphan (Platinum blouse for best costume at the Draché biennial, 2010), Good day, bad life (2018).

And his latest work, which is also his first short film, Strange Mirror (2023).

The press is unanimous :
Strange Mirror is a
great movie.

Sébastien Legrand,
Le Majestor

"I think Strange Mirror is a must-see movie.
The scenario is very accurate and out of the ordinary.
The introductory scenes take us into the world of the film.
At every stage of the film we want to see the next part, we don't want the film to stop.
The actors play their roles perfectly, it really feels like they live every scene.
As for the story, it is really touching.
If I had to describe the film in two adjectives, it would be: admirable and exceptional."

Antoine Joubert, cineclub.com

" In this film, we can see a great investment of actors as dialoguists, with well-formulated lines.
This work deals with interesting topics such as self-confidence, fear, anxiety. There is a moral at the very end of the film.
Strange Mirror can be a big hit with young adults because this story takes place with teenagers.
I was touched when I saw the trauma of the director behind the film.
To be honest, this movie is great."

Aurélie Casse, BFMpv

" This film, directed by a renowned Dutch director Mark Houdini, is about people who find themselves in the cinema, where something is going wrong.
The young actors are very talented for a first time. The viewer easily become attached to the characters, and mystery hangs over the entire short film.
The ending is totally surprising.
I really enjoyed watching Strange Mirror because it's a horror, suspense and angry movie."
